Village Conversations-(1954) Swedish mid-century oil on canvas
Another beautiful painting by the same Swedish artist ( see Spanish Siesta) dating from 1954. Wonderfully atmospheric, there are so many lovely details in this piece. A cluster of villagers sit chatting, their voices echoing in the quiet streets, a weary elderly lady sits for a rest as she gazes on at the contented donkey chewing his feed whilst the whitewashed buildings soak up the heat of the day.
Bold lines lend a Modernist feel and the Lowry-esque figures create interest. On first glance, the painting appears monochromatic but on further inspection pops of colour from a blue apron or peach coloured roof start to catch your eye.
Presented in excellent condition and housed in a beautiful, vintage linen frame which is indeed a work of art in itself,
